We are seeking an expert level leader to support the design, execution, and continuous improvement of CHS’s global insurance and risk financing programs. This position plays a key role in managing global insurance strategy, program analytics, and captive operations while developing the leadership and technical depth. This role partners across the enterprise, including business units, Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Operations—to identify, quantify, and mitigate insurable risks, strengthen governance, and ensure cost-effective risk transfer strategies aligned with CHS’s global operations and enterprise risk management framework.   To be considered, qualified candidates must live in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area to work a hybrid schedule (3-days per week in-office) at our corporate headquarters located in Inver Grove Heights, MN. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Director in developing and executing CHS’s global insurance and risk financing strategy.
  • Lead selected global insurance program placements (e.g., property, casualty, marine, or specialty lines), ensuring optimal coverage design and alignment with business objectives.
  • Monitor insurance market trends, coverage benchmarking, and program performance to recommend strategy adjustments and innovations.
  • Manage broker and carrier relationships within assigned program areas, ensuring high-quality service delivery and accountability.
  • Support the management and evolution of CHS’s captive insurance company, including underwriting analysis, reinsurance placement, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to the development of the international insurance strategy, coordinating with regional leaders to ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency in local placements.
  • Lead or assist with the evaluation and integration of insurance programs for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of loss trends, exposures, and market pricing to inform risk financing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators and dashboards to monitor insurance cost, claims experience, and captive performance.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to drive proactive loss control and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Owns all actuarial analysis and relationships with external actuaries.
  • Leads actuarial reviews for captive reserve adequacy, loss projections, and retention optimization.
  • Interprets results and integrates findings into financial forecasts and risk financing recommendations.
  • Support budgeting, accruals, and financial forecasting related to insurance premiums, claims, and captive operations
  • Mentor team members to enhance risk management capabilities across the organization.
  • Serve as a leader on the team and provide strategic insight and work direction.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability throughout CHS.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in corporate insurance, risk management, or risk financing roles including:
  • Experience with complex global insurance programs, broker/carrier management, and claims oversight
  • Proven analytical, financial modeling, and negotiation skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate insurance, risk management, or risk financing roles
  • ARM, CPCU, CRM, and/or RIMS-CRMP designations are preferred
  • Experience with captive insurance management and global insurance program coordination
  • Background in agriculture, energy, commodities, or manufacturing industries
  • Familiarity with mergers, acquisitions, and international risk transfer strategies
  • Excellent communication and relationship management capabilities
